Carlo: Signet Ring
The Carlo Ring is inspired by Carlo Scarpa’s architecture, expressed through precision detail using a combination of modernism, historicism and craftsmanship. Designed with aspects of roughness that are accentuated by clean and crisp lines, similar to those of the Brion Cemetery in San Vito d'Altivole near Treviso, Italy. "The architectural spaces we inhabit generate a specific mood, which in turn affects our mood. Similarly, jewellery is used to decorate one's personal space, which can affect the mood of the individual and those around them. I found this link quite interesting."
-Callum, CAD Designer and Designer of the Scarpa Ring
Crafted in sterling silver featuring the step motif present throughout Scarpa's work, the design features a 9ct yellow gold bar at the very top of the ring. The gold bar is set into place using the traditional crafting method of riveting. Finally, the ring has been oxidised to create the dark finish. Oxidisation in jewellery is the process of blackening metal or a finished piece, and it works exceptionally well with sterling silver. Oxidisation is typically placed in the recessed areas of a design, but in this case oxidisation was applied to the entire surface of the ring, with the exception of the gold bar.
Oxidisation doesn’t last forever and wears down the more a piece is worn. “The idea with this is that, originally, we wanted to oxidise the full ring and then partially remove some blackened areas to give it a worn look, but it looks so good completely black that we decided we’ll leave it like that, allowing the ring to change and evolve naturally as it’s worn by the wearer.”

Precious metals
- The precious metal refiners we source our materials from have gone to great lengths to secure the origin of their precious metal sources, along with their refining processes. All of these suppliers are either a member of the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) themselves or ensure all metal sourced is from an accredited organisation that is either a member of RJC or the London Bullion Market Association (LBMA).
- In our workshop, after every piece we craft, we collect all the precious metal dust and filings from the jeweller's benches to be refined back to a pure state and used again. This is just one of the ways we involve recycling in our processes to make them more sustainable.
